13:40 Newcastle – Tremolo

TREMOLO‘s best runs last season came on the all-weather surfaces, and he looks unexposed on his return to action. He has the right profile and has run well off a break in the past. He can run well in the ITV opener.

I like DELINQUENT for Karl Burke, who was a good winner at Hamilton on his penultimate start. He went to Carlisle and was sixth last time out, but that form has been franked since at Royal Ascot. Drawn in stall 3, the inside is never a bad place to be at York, so he gets the vote in a competitive handicap.

Diligent Harry was in good form early in the season, but I’m taking him on with SYMBOL OF HONOUR. He hasn’t been seen since finishing down the field at Meydan in February, but his form at Haydock last year at Group 2 level is strong. If Charlie Appleby has got him back to that sort of form, he could be an outlier in the market.

I really like NAANA’S SHADOW, who won well at Epsom. She travelled beautifully and quickened up in good style, and she’s drawn well in stall 5. She was third over course and distance back in May behind Fortification, and she’s been improving ever since. Katie Scott is doing a great job with her string, and she could get another Saturday winner with Naana’s Shadow.

14:40 Newcastle – St Faz (each-way)

I’m taking a chance on ST FAZ at an each-way price. He hasn’t run at this track before, but has run at Lingfield and Southwell, so this surface shouldn’t be a problem. Formerly trained by Edward O’Grady and Gordon Elliot, he’s had plenty of success since moving to the UK for Adrian Keatley. He’s gone up in the handicap from the low 60’s to a mark of 78, but ran well at Thirsk on his last start off that rating. Mikey Sheehy retains the ride, and from stall 9 I’ll be with him.

This looks like a match between Saber Strike and NEVER SO BRAVE, and I’m siding with the latter. He had an awkward draw to contend with last time at Epsom and missed the break, too. He ended up racing off the pace in a slowly run affair, and ran better than his finishing position suggests. He loves it at York, and he just gets the vote over the younger Saber Strike.

15:15 Newcastle – Synergism

I’m siding with SYNERGISM for Sir Mark Prescott and Luke Morris. He was a winner last time out at Lingfield and was placed at Kempton on his penultimate start. He’s been sneaking through the grades and ratings, and looks like a real improver for a stable that does so well with these types. When a big day comes around, there aren’t many better at getting them to improve again, and I’m taking a chance on him.

POWER FIZZ heads the market, and deservedly so. He’s going in the right direction and made a winning return this season over this course and distance in March, and he hasn’t been seen since. The Haggas team are in flying form, and in a winnable race, he’s the most likely winner.
