God Knows describes what it’s like from the artist’s perspective.
Thomond Park is the place to be this summer for live music. With Lewis Capaldi having kicked off the weekend last night, Florence + The Machine taking the stage tonight, and Michael Bublé bringing his smooth sounds tomorrow, Treaty City is firmly on the global music map.
It doesn’t stop there, next week sees a fantastic lineup including Kings of Leon, Shania Twain, and Pitbull all set to rock Shannonside.
For local rapper God Knows, seeing the stadium transformed into a world-class concert venue brings back memories and plenty of hometown pride.
He said looking out at a packed Thomond Park crowd is surreal, “Jeez, I just got goosebumps off the back of my head just there. It’s incredible.”
“You know, also being a local lad, it feels insane. Looking out and then you’re like, ‘oh, yeah, that’s Ballynanty over there’, like, it’s crazy.”
God Knows previously shared the stage at Thomond Park alongside Denise Chaila when they supported Ed Sheeran during his massive stadium tour.
He described the experience as a “once-in-a-lifetime” moment, especially when the global superstar used his platform to highlight Irish talent.
“That was a packed night. It was actually incredible,” he said. “He also previewed the track that he had done with Denise that night as well, which is pretty insane to witness that in real time.”
“He chose to preview and play that tune and really to spotlight Denise that night, which, as somebody who was part of the team at the time, was like a big deal. There were so many moments that made it a very once-in-a-lifetime thing.”
While venues like Dublin’s Croke Park might hold larger numbers, God Knows says there is an unmatched energy when it comes to a home crowd in Limerick
“The Irish crowd is always great wherever you’re going to go. In Limerick, we have something to prove, you know what I mean? So there was that element in it as well. We’re gonna show you that this is Limerick. We have something to say. We’re rambunctious!”
With thousands of fans visiting the stadium over the coming days, Godknows is confident the visiting stars are in for a treat. “I think they’re gonna have an incredible time, all these artists coming through this weekend.”
