An initiative by a group of European Union governments to amend the bloc’s methane-emissions regulation gained momentum after Germany endorsed the push, arguing that some provisions could threaten energy security.
Disagreements over the regulation — which targets emissions of the potent greenhouse gas within the EU and imposes new requirements on fossil fuel importers — have intensified after the US, Qatar and other gas-producing nations urged the bloc earlier this week to revise the rules, warning that they could jeopardize oil and gas supplies.
