The US and UK versions of Love Island are currently airing at the same time, and fans can thank the American version for the new chaos of the UK version.
The popular dating show has been a huge hit since the UK version first premiered in 2015, and has since sparked many spin-offs in different countries.
While the UK series continues to attract millions of viewers, new duty of care processes have led to a shift in the show’s style and format in recent years.
Love Island USA
Over the past few years, Love Island UK has been hit with multiple cases of Ofcom complaints, which have led producers to scrap certain challenges.
In 2021, the show hit a record 25,000 complaints after Islanders Faye Winter and Teddy Soares got into a blazing row.
Faye became enraged after being sent a postcard from Casa Amor showing her partner, Teddy, kissing another woman.
In the end, Faye recoupled, only to find out the kiss had been a part of the challenge.
Fans speculated the show decided to scrap the postcards due to the Ofcom complaints, but have since begged for their return.
Across the pond, Love Island USA has been giving fans what they want as they sent both villas’ selfie postcards from Casa Amor, as well as introducing chaotic challenges.
Just days later, Love Island UK appears to be borrowing the twist, teasing “a secret selfie challenge,” where the girls were instructed to take a series of photos that relate to a prompt.
Later in Casa Amor, the girls got to work, with Martha snapping a photo of Kavan and Charleen enjoying another kiss.
Many viewers believe these photos will be sent to the Main Villa, promising heartbreak and chaos among the Islanders.
The American version is known for pushing the limits, with this year’s season including Movie Night, Casa Amor and the Heart Rate Challenge all in the same episode.
The girls were sent off to get ready and glam, before the boys recieved a text inviting them to Casa Amor.
However, unknown to the boys, Casa Amor was being livestreamed to the main villa, leaving the girls furious.
