PERFIDIA has largely held his form well this season, barring a tame effort at Hamilton two starts ago, but he proved better than ever when resuming winning ways at Nottingham last week, and looks the one to beat again given he escapes a penalty for that success. His rider, who has been on board for his last two wins, can also claim his full 7lb now, so he’s hard to ignore from a handicapping perspective. Keats House, who seems to be working his way back to form, can pose the biggest threat.
This doesn’t look the strongest race of its type and it could prove a good opportunity for TURNSTILE to open his account. He gave a good account of himself in a well-run, big-field selling race at York earlier this month, leaving the impression this return to 5f will be in his favour, and he’s capable of winning a race of this nature. Bear Lee should improve with her debut behind her and may give the selection more to do than Wetherby third Heffernan Kingdom.
HAAYIMM showed the benefit of a gelding operation when opening his account on his return at Pontefract in April, leaving his debut form behind and looking a useful prospect, lowering the colours of the long odds-on favourite. He improved another chunk when narrowly beaten in a small-field at Hamilton last time and remains a horse to be positive about now handicapping from an opening mark which may well underestimate him. High Degree and Strength of Spirit might be the pair to give him most to do.
WILLOWINGHURN left the impression she was building up to something prior to an underwhelming effort at Doncaster last time, but she may be worth another chance in what isn’t a deep race. She’s now 7lb lower in the weights than when winning over this course and distance, so is weighted to go well now sporting first-time cheekpieces. Sanditon arrives in good form and is second choice ahead of Monhammer.
NATIVE INSTINCT showed enough on his reappearance at Hamilton to think he has a race in him from this sort of mark. He had an excuse for a lesser run at Carlisle since he raced closer to the pace than ideal and made his effort well away from the favoured stand rail. Son acquitted himself well in a big-field race at York recently and is feared most ahead of Abduction.
IS SHE NOW is now an eight-year-old, but that didn’t stop her landing a gamble on her first start for this yard back on the Flat at Ayr 11 days ago. That was the first success of her career, but it was a taking one, proving a totally different proposition, travelling smoothly throughout and winning easily. She’s potentially well treated back in a handicap, and will likely prove hard to beat, if in the same form. Sophiesticate can turn the tables on last week’s course and distance conqueror Gemini Man and give Daragh Bourke’s mare most to do.
Successful over this course and distance on her first start of the month, WEE MARY went close to scoring again here eight days ago, and she’s taken to resume winning ways with a handy draw to work from. What A Tahoo remains unexposed at 5f and is feared most, ahead of Invincible Crown.
