Love Island’s Gabriel Garland entered the Love Island Villa for Casa Amor on day 23 of the show.

But the 24-year-old model didn’t last too long after TV bosses discovered his name was referenced in court documents relating to the conviction of Vitor Mazzer.

According to reports, the pair attended a New Year’s Eve party in London in 2019, when Gabriel was just 17 years old.

Mazzer was found guilty of two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after the party.

Court documents state that two victims had an altercation with Garland before Mazzer stabbed them.

Concerned fans were critical of ITV for not carrying out thorough background checks on the reality show’s contestants, but many were quick to say he was not charged with any offence and this judgement makes no finding of wrongdoing against him.

One wrote on TikTok, ‘That’s not very safe. How did this happen?’

While another chimed, ‘Hope they replace him, as six girls and five boys isn’t fair’ – though there are no plans for him to be replaced by a new bombshell.

Despite being pulled from the hit show almost instantly, he still appeared in Sunday night’s episode.

A Love Island spokesman said: ‘Gabriel has now left the villa and will not be returning. We will not be commenting further out of a duty of care towards participants.’

Prior to entering Casa Amor, Gabriel told ITV: ‘My type would be someone who has intelligence, emotional maturity, someone who’s confident but humble.’
