There are already two outlets in Cork – on Oliver Plunkett Street and in the Mahon Shopping Centre – now there will be a third Diesel store, opening shortly, on the southside.
Wilton Shopping Centre, one of the first dedicated shopping centres in Munster Cork when it opened in 1979, has seen a good bit of coming and going in recent months, with Boots closing their old outlet but promising to move to a bigger unit. That big new Boots opened just in time for Christmas.
The Dutch-owned luxury fragrances and toiletries brand Rituals has also opened up in Wilton – one of two stores planned for Cork, with the other due to go into the former Roches Stores once it is fitted out as a new retail and hospitality hub for Patrick Street.
The Diesel outlet in Wilton is due to open shortly, with jobs already being advertised, including sales assistant positions.
Wilton Shopping centre was greenlit for a huge new redevelopment as far back as 2019 – with digital mock-ups of the proposed new centre shopping a total modernisation, you can see those here, with the intention to make it a ‘destination shopping centre for Munster’.
However, the pandemic, which started in March 2020, saw those plans postponed indefinitely, but CorkBeo understands the intention is to carry out the refurbishment programme, with a total investment that could be in the region of €150m.
