A leading Canadian agriculture equipment manufacturer is hailing a new agreement with a European construction machinery giant as “an important milestone” in its international expansion goals.
Winnipeg-based Buhler Versatile Inc. has notarized an agreement to acquire the operating business and company assets of Germany’s Atlas Group.
A June 11 news release touted Atlas’s “longstanding reputation” in construction machinery, material handling equipment and crane technology.
The acquisition also adds “significant” engineering, manufacturing and market expertise to Versatile’s operations that will benefit farmer customers, Farrah Wilson, head of marketing with Versatile, wrote in an email.
Buhler Versatile Inc. is Canada’s only manufacturer of agricultural tractors.
“For agricultural producers, a stronger Buhler Versatile means a stronger long-term commitment to our products, dealer network and customers,” she noted.
“The acquisition expands our industrial capabilities and strengthens our position in international markets, particularly in Europe. As we grow our global footprint, we create additional opportunities to invest in product development, manufacturing and customer support, which ultimately benefits producers who rely on Versatile equipment every day.”

The completion of the transaction remains subject to “customary” closing conditions, including approval by relevant German authorities.
Atlas will continue to operate from its headquarters in Ganderkesee, Germany. Although the June 11 release referred to a “planned transfer” of a “significant” number of Atlas employees, their destination is not necessarily Manitoba, says Wilson.
“We do not anticipate any significant relocation of Atlas employees to Manitoba. The business will continue to operate from Germany, and there are currently no plans that would result in a large-scale movement of employees to Winnipeg.”
The Atlas companies to be acquired by Versatile under the agreement include Atlas GmbH, Atlas Spare Parts GmbH, Atlas Group Services GmbH, Atlas Kompakt GmbH and shares held in the British company Atlas Cranes UK Ltd.
Buhler Versatile Inc. designs, manufactures and markets a range of agricultural equipment, including high-horsepower four-wheel-drive tractors and tillage equipment. It became part of the Turkish firm ASKO in 2025.
Atlas develops and manufactures wheeled and crawler excavators, material handlers, loader cranes and related equipment.
