Rhasidat Adeleke’s long-awaited return to the 400m circuit ended in disappointment as she finished ninth at the Prefontaine Classic event at Eugene, Oregon.
The 24 year old clocked a time of 52.26 seconds, leaving her last in the field, as Jamaica’s Dejanea Oakley took the win with an impressive time of 49.64.
Ireland’s 400m national record holder Adeleke returned after a stop start last 18 months, which included withdrawing from the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo due to “lingering injuries and continuous setbacks”, in a season where she only competed three times over the 400m distance, where she holds a personal best of 49.07.
The Tallaght native has predominately raced in shorter sprints so far this year, and will be keen to find the raw talent that led to a successful 2024.
She is also in the field to run at Monaco’s Diamond League meet on 10 July.
