A man extradited to Ireland to face charges of rape in Co Donegal has been remanded in custody.
The man, who is in his 40s and cannot be named at this stage of proceedings, was brought before Judge Emile Daly at Letterkenny District Court.
The accused man was flown to Ireland from another country after the execution of a European Arrest Warrant and has now been remanded in custody.
He is charged with two counts of rape involving the same woman at a location in Co Donegal on a date in 2021.
One of the charges is contrary to section 4 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990. The other charge is contrary to section 48 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861 and section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Act, 1981, as amended by section 21 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990.
Detective Garda Johnny Gallagher gave evidence of arresting the man at 10.50pm on July 6, 2026 at Terminal 2, Dublin Airport on foot of a European Arrest Warrant.
The man was conveyed to a Garda Station in Donegal and charged with the two offences.
When cautioned, the man told detectives after each charge: “I did not say that I was guilty. It was an agreement and the other party wanted to have sex.”
