Minister for Arts, Media and Sport Patrick O’Donovan has been hospitalised in Brussels.
Mr O’Donovan became unwell on Tuesday night and was taken to hospital.
He was in Brussels for a series of events as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the EU.
A spokesperson for the minister said that he remains under close medical observation.
“I would ask you to respect his privacy and that of his family.
“There will be no further comment at this time,” they said.
A Fine Gael spokesperson said Tánaiste Simon Harris remains in close contact with the family of Mr O’Donovan.
“His thoughts and that of entire Fine Gael family are with Patrick and his family,” they said.
