Irish country star Lisa McHugh has reflected on the ‘toughest’ 12 months of her life and told of her pride in how far she has come.
The popular singer, whose mother hails from Falcarragh, was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) in 2025.
Exactly a year later, Lisa took to her social media to update fans on her health now and said she is choosing to look at how far she has come.
Sharing videos and pictures of the past year, accompanied by the Ella Langley song ‘Butterfly Season,‘ Lisa said she is ‘proud’ that she never stopped fighting.
The mother-of-two said: “One year ago today, my life changed completely.
“I was in hospital, losing the power in my legs. Looking back through these videos and photos now (and this is only a small snippet), I barely recognise the person I was. It honestly feels like I’m looking at somebody else.
“The last 12 months have been the toughest of my life. They’ve been filled with fear, uncertainty, setbacks and plenty of tears. Healing isn’t easy and it certainly isn’t pretty… it’s messy.
“Today though, I’m choosing to look at how far I’ve come.

“I don’t say this very often, but I am so proud of myself. Proud of every setback I’ve overcome, every time I kept going when it would’ve been easier to give up, and proud that I never stopped fighting for myself and for my two beautiful babies.
Lisa, who married partner Nathan Khan in an idyllic wedding in Gortahork in 2022, disclosed that, despite its many challenges, the past year has also given her a new perspective on life.
“This year has taught me so much about life, about what truly matters, and about the importance of never putting myself last. I may be a completely different person than I was this time last year, but I truly believe I’m a stronger, healthier and more resilient version of myself.”
She also shared some heartfelt advice for others going through tough times.
“If you’re fighting your own battle, don’t lose hope. Keep going. One day you’ll look back and realise just how far you’ve come.”
