The body of a man which was washed up on the beach at Enniscrone, Co. Sligo today is believed to be that of a fisherman who has been missing since Sunday week.

The man, believed to be a foreign national, fell from a high cliff while shore fishing close to the Dun Briste sea stack near Downpatrick Head in north Mayo.

Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club and Mayo Search and Rescue Unit along with Ballyglass RNLI Lifeboat and a rescue helicopter had been involved in the lengthy search and rescue operation.

The body was removed to a hospital morgue this afternoon for a post mortem examination
