A 43-year-old man has appeared before Blanchardstown District Court court charged with the murder of Anthony Long in west Dublin earlier this month.
Darren McNamee, with an address at Talbot Hall, Riverbank, Swords, Co Dublin, was remanded in custody to appear in court again next week.
The judge directed that legal aid be extended to allow the defence commission an independent forensic pathology report into the cause of death.
Mr Long was attacked near his home on Parlickstown Drive in Mulhuddart on 3 July.
He was taken to hospital where he died two days later.

He told the court that he arrested Mr McNamee at 3.50am this morning and when he was charged with the murder of Anthony Long nine minutes later he made no reply.

There was no application for bail as bail cannot be granted in the District Court on a murder charge
He was represented by barrister Fiachra Treacy who asked for legal aid for a solicitor and counsel and that the accused’s legal team be provided with an independent pathology report.
Mr Treacy said the incident involved a number of people, the cause of death was paramount and that it causes some concern that there was no independent pathology report.
Garda Woods said he would have to seek instructions on the defence application, but Judge David McHugh acceded to both requests.
He also granted Mr McNamee free legal aid and remanded him in custody to appear again by video link at Cloverhill District Court next week.
