More than €4.5 million is being invested into Kingsbridge Private Hospital in Sligo.
The move comes against the backdrop of a significant number of expected redundancies at the hospital.
In a statement, Kingsbridge Healthcare Group say the investment will fund a reconfiguration of services at the hospital, introducing advanced new diagnostic equipment, including significantly enhanced endoscopy systems with MRI and X-ray services on site.
Last month, staff were told a number of positions were potentially at risk as part of an initial voluntary redundancy process.
It had been expected then the roles impacted would include nurses, healthcare staff and administrators.
It’s understood the vast majority of redundancies have been voluntary in nature and the figure is believed to be in the mid-twenties.
According to the healthcare group, Kingsbridge Sligo will mirror the HSE’s model of smaller regional centres offering rapid access to high quality diagnostics and minimally invasive surgery with larger centres of excellence taking the more complex cases.
Work on the upgrade of the theatre and endoscopy units at Kingsbridge Sligo will begin on this Monday.
Services in these units will pause during the works and resume in mid-September, when the facility reopens.
