Gardaí say they are investigating an attempted abduction of a woman in broad daylight in the Mountjoy Square area of Dublin 1 earlier this week.
Speaking to Gript, a male city council worker, who asked to remain anonymous, said he happened to be in the right place at the right time sitting in his van when he saw the adult woman being dragged into a vehicle by a male assailant in an apparent abduction.
Both he and another male bystander intervened and managed to prevent the abduction from taking place at around 2.30pm on Monday.
The man told Gript that he was particularly concerned by the incident, because there is a créche around the corner around 100 metres from where the event had occurred.
In a statement, local Gardaí said they were investigating the matter.
“Gardaí received a report of the alleged attempted abduction of an adult female at Mountjoy Square in Dublin 1 at approximately 2:40pm on Monday 29th September 2025,” authorities said.
“No injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing.”
