Limerick have claimed a first All-Ireland hurling title since 2023, comfortably overcoming Galway on a scoreline of 1-29 to 1-18 at Croke Park this afternoon.

Galway were quite poor in the opening half of the game, struggling to get much going in the attacking third. They would score just three points from play prior to the interval.

Limerick found their scores much easier to come by. They would lead 0-13 to 0-8 at halftime, although that deficit could have been even larger.

It was much the same story once the game resumed, with Limerick completely dominant. The game was then all but ended as a contest when a red card was handed out just before the hour mark.

Limerick Star Showed His Class With Gesture To Galway Man

Galway were reduced to 14 men midway through the second half, with Ronan Glennon receiving his marching orders after a head high hit on Mike Casey.

It seemed as though referee Colm Lyons was hesitant to give the red card, but he had little choice under the current rules. The challenge was mistimed and certainly a dangerous one.

Glennon was understandably distraught, with the sending off compounding a difficult afternoon for the player as the game got away from his side.

As the Galway man made his way off the pitch, he was consoled by Limerick’s Gearóid Heagrty.

A real touch of class. It looked as though there was no intent in the challenge from Glennon, something may well have played into the response of Hegarty.

This was a difficult afternoon for Galway, who did not perform to their best. They came up against a Limerick team in imperious form on the day, but it is fair to say that the fixture was not a fantastic spectacle in the way many had hoped it would be.

For Limerick, this game cemented their place as the finest team in the country after a stellar 2026 campaign. Judging by their performances in recent months, it will be difficult to see any team surpassing them in 2027.
