Fuels for Ireland are set for a meeting at the Department of Finance today, amid concerns over rising costs and the planed return of excise duty.
It says motorists remain vulnerable to volatility in global oil markets.
The outcome of the meeting will be closely monitored by motorists locally who are more than likely will be hit hardest with prices increasing slowly again.
Any increases at the pumps will also be a major worry to local haulage contractors that are trying to reamin in business during a very difficult year.
Today’s talks come as the fuel industry warns global oil markets remain unpredictable despite prices easing in recent weeks.
Oil prices surged during the recent conflict in the Middle East, driving up the cost of petrol, diesel and home heating oil, before falling back after a ceasefire was agreed.
The industry says uncertainty remains, with global events continuing to influence prices at the pumps.
Meanwhile, the Government still intends to fully restore fuel excise duties by the end of the year, while continuing to monitor the energy market.
