RTÉ’s latest annual report for 2025 is expected to be published after today’s cabinet meeting.
The report is due to be discussed by ministers at Government Buildings later this morning, before a likely publication early this afternoon.
The annual report for 2025 will outline the financial circumstances at the broadcaster at the end of last year, with attention likely to be placed on issues such as spending levels, voluntary redundancy scheme costs and the TV licence.
Positive aspects around what is happening at the organisation are also expected to be outlined.
However, significant attention is likely to be placed on the salaries provided to the most senior presenters and managers at the broadcaster – an issue which has repeatedly drawn attention in recent years.
Today’s report will say that nine of the top 10 highest renumeration packages in RTÉ are now received by senior managers. Claire Byrne, who left RTÉ to join Newstalk last year, is the only on-air broadcaster to make 2025’s top 10 list.
Today’s cabinet meeting, which is the second last before the summer break, is also expected to discuss a new memo from Minister for Housing James Browne to address what he will confirm are defective concrete blocks in some social housing homes.
The Minister is due to tell cabinet colleagues there is a need to change the existing Remediation of Dwellings Damaged By The Use of Defective Concrete Blocks Act 2022, due to the potential damage caused to some homes.
Government sources have suggested at least 2,400 social housing units across Ireland could be affected.
Among other matters due to be raised at Cabinet today will be funding for extra third level education places for a range of professions.
Minister for Further and Higher Education James Lawless is expected to seek cabinet approval for €37m in additional funding for 274 health and social care training places.
They will include places for occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychology, social work, social care and other areas.
