Gardaí have seized e-scooters, e-bikes and a scrambler from people driving them dangerously in West Dublin.

A man and a teenager were arrested and charged.

A drone from the newly established Garda Drone Unit was used for the first time in yesterday’s operation which was led by the Dublin Crime Response Team.

Gardaí carried out patrols and also stopped a number of drivers in Finglas and Blanchardstown.

The drone was used to identify and follow people on e-scooters. One person was tracked back to a house where they were arrested in the garden.

Others abandoned the e-scooters and ran from gardaí.

Eleven e-scooters, two e-bikes and one scrambler were seized as part of the garda operation Meacán.

It was set up to tackle the illegal use of electric motorbikes, e-scooters and e-bikes in public areas.

Gardaí say they are also being used for criminal activity including drug distribution, money laundering, transporting firearms, drug-related intimidation and other serious offences.

The man arrested has been bailed to appear in court on a later date while the male teenager is being referred to the Garda National Youth Diversion Bureau.
