There will be significant changes to how motorists travel around Limerick City for the month of August.
Motorists and commuters in Limerick City are being advised to prepare for significant traffic diversions throughout August, as several key city routes undergo temporary road closures.
The measures are being put in place to accommodate Mayor John Moran’s August Activation Events alongside the hosting of the European Sport for All Event 2026.
Key thoroughfares including Nicholas Street, Honan’s Quay, and The Crescent will see full or partial closures and parking suspensions starting Saturday, August 1st.
Nicholas Street will see closures from 9am to 6pm daily throughout August, extending until 10pm on weekends to cater for event crowds. Traffic will be diverted via Island Road, St. Francis Place, and Newgate Lane.
Honan’s Quay, The Crescent, Lower Glentworth Street, and Back Lane will all be subject to 24-hour, seven-day-a-week closures for the entire month.
Residents and visitors accessing the apartment complex carpark near Honan’s Quay will be accommodated via Bedford Row. Heavy goods vehicles and buses heading outbound from The Crescent area will be rerouted via Mallow Street and Dock Road, with local cars advised to use Harstonge Street.
Parking will be suspended along the affected routes for the duration of the events. Local Garda units at Henry Street, Mayorstone Park, and Roxboro Road will be actively monitoring operations to adjust traffic flows as needed.
