Mayo ended a 75-year wait on Sunday at Croke Park by beating holders Kerry 1-20 to 1-17 to win the All-Ireland senior football title.

It’s the county’s first senior All-Ireland success for 75 years (1951).

The photo from Inpho accompanying this story shows former St Attracta’s Community School pupil Paul Towey (Charlestown) who was part of the victorious Mayo team.

Kerry had got off to a great start and 1-02 from David Clifford helped them to a 1-04 to 1 point lead.

Two pointers from Jack Carney and Ryan O’Donogue brought Mayo back into the game and at half time, the kingdom had a one point lead.

Darragh Beirne found the net minutes after the break, Carney and O’Donoghue added further 2 pointers.
