It could have been a historic day for Jack O’Connor’s Kerry who were heading for their 40th title.
It was an extra historic day as Mayo lifted the trophy after a 70-plus-year drought.
While most of the country were glued to match updates in some form on Sunday, Donegal singer Daniel O’Donnell performed a gig.

The musician was performing at McCafferty Bar and restaurant in Dungloe, County Donegal.
Despite not being able to watch the football himself, concert-goers kept the 64-year-old updated throughout.

The clip was shared by TikTok user Adventure Aaron, with many taking to the comments in delight.
‘GOOD MAN DANIEL,’ one wrote, with another adding: ‘I think the majority if not all of Ireland are genuinely happy that Mayo finally won Sam.

The 70 minutes of football saw Mayo crowned champions with the final score 1-20 to 1-17 at Croke Park.
Reacting after, Kerry boss Jack O’Connor branded the Mayo side ‘hungry’ and ‘energetic.’
The football manager detailed some of the ups and downs Kerry players faced throughout the season.
‘That’s why we have a panel,’ he added, ‘We had to deal with it. But not making excuses.’
The 65-year-old commented: ‘Hunger is a great driver. But there was no reason why our men shouldn’t have been hungry. We have an ambitious team that want to win more All-Irelands
‘There was nothing wrong with our hunger against Tyrone and Dublin out here. But no qualms, no excuses.
‘Mayo were better than us.’
