Limerick has officially been named the padel capital of the Republic of Ireland, boasting more than double the national average of courts per capita.
According to new research published by Openplay, Limerick tops the Irish Padel Court Density League 2026 with 7.6 courts per 100,000 people.
The county currently features 16 open, bookable courts spread across four premier venues, including Padel LK’s eight-court complex, the Radisson Blu’s Padel 100 setup, Castle Oaks, and Adare Manor.
Industry analysts noted that while Dublin holds the largest absolute number of courts, its huge population leaves it languishing in 13th place nationally.
Cork ranks even lower in 17th spot, making Limerick’s top-ranking status a standout success story for local sports infrastructure.
Across the Republic, there are currently 176 open courts across 60 venues, giving a national average of 3.4 courts per 100,000 people.
Neighbouring county Clare remains one of six counties with no open courts yet, although projects are in development.
While Ireland still trails European powerhouse Spain, which boasts over 35 courts per 100,000 residents, Limerick’s impressive facility footprint puts the county well ahead of the UK average and at the forefront of the fastest-growing sport in the country.
