Sligo Rovers captain Will Fitzgerald has joined Shamrock Rovers for a fee believed to be a club record €75,000 ahead of tonight’s League of Ireland transfer deadline.
It’s a blow for the Bit O’Red as they look to avoid the drop from the Premier Division.
Sligo are rooted to the foot of the table, a point behind Waterford and five adrift of eighth-place Drogheda United.
The 27-year-old moves from the bottom to the summit after agreeing personal terms with the champions and was unveiled at Tallaght Stadium ahead of the Champions League second round qualifier at home to Ararat Armenia.
Sligo manager Darren Purse has been active on deadline day, with the signing of Jack Shorrock on loan from Port Vale until the end of the season, subject to international transfer clearance.
The 19-year-old left-sided player can operate in both defence and attack.
St Patrick’s Athletic announced the signing of Anthony Olusanya – pictured below – from Swedish club Kalmar FF.
The 26-year-old forward, who has represented Finland at senior international level, said: “I am very pleased to be joining St Patrick’s Athletic and I am excited about getting to know the players and staff. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully be part of many great moments with the team.
“Moving to St Pat’s and the League of Ireland is a new challenge for me. I’ve learned a little about the history of the club and I am looking forward to being part of that and I want to achieve good things here.
“I can play in different attacking positions and I hope to be able to create and score and be a threat in the final third and make a good contribution to the team.”
Manager Stephen Kenny added: “I’m quite excited about Anthony’s signing. He has played a high number of matches with good teams in Finland and Sweden and we are looking forward to seeing him make a positive impact here at St Patrick’s Athletic.
“Anthony is an all round striker with a range of attributes and he has the ability and adaptability to play with, and compliment different types of strikers. He has a high level of tactical understanding too and he is also in season and has been playing games up to recently which is an advantage.
“Anthony has the potential to be an excellent signing for the club.”

Central defender Tom Grivosti has joined Dundalk in a permanent deal from St Patrick’s Athletic. The 27-year-old joined Pat’s in 2022 and made more than 100 appearances for the club.
Waterford have signed midfielder Noah Mawene on loan from sister club Fleetwood Town.
The 21-year-old, who also played for Newport County and Southend United on loan, will go straight into the blues’ squad to take on Shelbourne this Sunday.
