ITV Racing returns for Day 3 of the Glorious meeting, starting here with a handicap for 3yo over 1m2f. Wide open. CIARRAI ABU has his quirks and can be slowly out of the stalls and hung badly last time when winning at Ascot. That all said, he’s clearly got a load of talent, and I think there should be more improvement to come over this longer trip. Saffie Osborne gets the ride on a horse who has the perfect stall in box 2. Will just need a bit of luck in running and some strong handling. An each-way chance.
Here’s the Group 2 Richmond Stakes for juveniles over 6f. ADAAY OF SCARLET is a model of consistency and is hard to kick out of the frame again for Hugo Palmer. The Coventry runner-up and July Stakes runner-up won’t have as much scope as some, but he brings a fair level of form, and Oisin Murphy knows him well. Place claims at least.
The Group 3 Gordon Stakes for possible St Leger types over 1m4f. BAY OF BRILLIANCE has the chance to bounce back to form for Hector Crouch and Ralph Beckett. The Lingfield Derby Trial runner-up ran a fine fourth in the main event at Epsom on ground he probably enjoyed, but then flopped last time in Germany when there seemed to be no excuses. He has to be taken on trust on a fast surface, but it was soft in Germany, so maybe it’s worth trying something different.
The big one of the day in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes for fillies and mares over 1m2f. Friendly Soul is a machine and could well cause a minor upset here. That all said, DIAMOND NECKLACE has to be the selection after an unbeaten career so far of 5 out of 5 and wins this term in the French 1000 Guineas and French Oaks. She wasn’t at her best last time, but still managed to pull things out of the fire, and this is a big chance to carry on the good work. It’s worth noting officially she hasn’t got masses in hand, but I suspect she has more to offer. Ryan Moore on top for Aidan O’Brien.
A handicap for 3yo over 5f. I’ll chance the high draws and go with NOBLE VOW for Richard Hannon and Joe Leavy. My hope looked progressive when winning at Bath (small race) and Haydock before flopping at Thirsk in May. He’s off the same mark here but has been gelded since, and owner Dr Jim and Fitri Hay target this meeting. Let’s hope the horse’s mind is on the job.
