A regular handicap is difficult enough to figure out, but this Nursery is even tougher with so little form on offer. I’m siding with SEVEN NATION ARMY, who can reverse the form with I Ready in the opener on Thursday. He was green when he hit the front, pulling himself up and letting I Ready pass him before rallying again late. If he improves on that effort, he can go close.

Plenty of these look out of their depth in terms of ratings, and I’m opposing some of the market principals. Pivotal Attack has course form, but yard form is a real worry for her. Meriden has excelled on quick surfaces, and she wouldn’t want any further rain. Black Caviar Gold is the opposite, and would probably prefer it soft.

CELTIC MOTIF looks overpriced as Joseph O’Brien’s second string. She bolted up in a Killarney maiden last time, and while it wasn’t a strong race, she does have some good juvenile form. I’m going to take a chance on her to cause an upset.

Willie saddles Soir De Garde, and while he’s got ability, he’ll need to improve his jumping. LE COQ HARDI was fourth in the Kerry National last year, and a repeat of that would be enough. That’s the standout piece of form on offer, and he’s been in good form of late, winning at Kilbeggan last time out. At the prices, he makes the most appeal.

ROC DINO looked like he could become a decent novice hurdler at the beginning of last season, but he ran into Mighty Park on debut and El Cairos on his second start. He was disappointing in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham, but he returned with a facile victory at Downpatrick. The undulating track at Galway should suit him, and hopefully he can fulfil the promise of his early days.

A cracking renewal of the Galway Hurdle, with plenty in with chances. Solness has to be respected off a mark of 153, considering he’s rated 165 over fences. MURCIA was a Grade 1-winning juvenile, and she didn’t stay 2m 4f at Killarney last time. The drier the ground is, the better she’ll be, and Paul Townend has elected to ride her. There’s a big day in her, and she’s the pick of the fancied runners.

RAGMANS CORNER had two cracking runs at this festival last year, third behind Filey Bay in the Amateur Handicap on the Monday before finishing second behind Aurea Fortuna over hurdles on the Friday off 115. Course form could be key, and he has a solid each-way chance.

Paul Nolan saddles SAGEBOROUGH, who fell two out in the Supreme. He gets in with 10st 1lb on his back, with Conor Stone-Walsh an eye-catching jockey booking. I can see him running well at an each-way price.

SAN AER was unlucky in the last on Tuesday night, finding himself much too close to a red-hot pace that capitulated. He did get a great run through on the inside, but it paid to come from off the pace. If he’s backed up quickly, he could get his big day in the sun!

SHOWYOUTHEROPES was a non-runner on Tuesday, but he looks interesting again. He’s had three starts for Gerard O’Leary, and he’s of interest for a team that loves a winner at Galway. Gary Carroll takes the ride, and he remains on a workable mark. He looks overpriced in the last.
