A handicap for the stayers to open the card. Orandi bounced back to form for Tony Martin at Galway earlier in the week, and ALPHONSE LE GRANDE can repeat the dose. His horses have been in good form all week, and he’s very good at targeting these big pots. A mark of 87 looks very workable now, and he’s guaranteed to stay the trip. I’m siding with him at a nice price.

TALK OF NEW YORK chased home Bow Echo and Gstaad at Ascot last time, and that is a standout piece of form. That pair filled the same placings in the Sussex at this track on Wednesday, further boosting the Royal Ascot form. He’s short, but I’m siding with him to get back to winning ways.

Beagle Bay is in fine form and is a worthy favourite. I’m siding with BUNYOLA BAY, who was a ready winner of the Gowran Classic on his penultimate start. He gained free entry to the Irish Derby for that victory, but was ultimately out of his depth. I’m a fan of that Gowran formline, and Ryan Moore is an eye-catching jockey booking. He’s of plenty of interest, dropping significantly in grade from stall 11.

15:35 Goodwood – Rumstar

RUMSTAR bounced right back to form when winning a Group 3 at Sandown on his last start. He did that in impressive fashion, after running poorly at Group 1 level at Royal Ascot. He has the pace to get involved from his low draw in stall 3, and this grade seems to be within his reach. I’m siding with him in a competitive 5f sprint.

I’m taking a chance on CROWN OF OAKS at a big price. If connections fancy him, he won’t be sent off at 10/1! He probably needed the run at the Curragh on his reappearance, having not run since winning on Champions Day at Ascot in October. He still has plenty of potential, and at the prices, he’s the selection.

Vicar Street will be all the rage of the two Willie Mullins runners, with Harry Cobden taking the ride. He was beaten at this track twice, once as a short-price favourite, so it could pay to take him on. OCASTLE DES MOTTES could be a good price with Vicar Street taking up plenty of the market. He probably hasn’t delivered on the promise that he’s shown, but he’s a 126-rated chaser, and he has plenty of experience. There’s definitely a race in him, and Friday could just be the day to catch him!

Willie Mullins saddles two again, but this time in a 1m 4f flat handicap. Night Moon gets in towards the bottom of the weights, but I prefer THREAD OF GOLD. I wasn’t keen on him in the Nasrullah, but he won that well despite his inexperience. He’s always looked like this trip will really suit him, and it should help him to carry the penalty. Billy Lee takes over from Wayne Lordan in the saddle, and he has every chance in the Flat feature on Friday night!
