The Courts Service has issued a warning to the public following a scam involving fraudsters posing as members of its staff.

The scam callers have reportedly contacted people who had recently attended court, falsely claiming to be following up on unpaid fines.

During the calls, the fraudsters asked victims to provide sensitive personal information, including their PPS number, bank account details and credit card information.

The Courts Service has stressed that it “will never” contact members of the public by phone to request PPS numbers, banking details or credit card information.

Anyone who receives such a call is being urged not to engage with the caller and not to share any personal or financial information.

The Courts Service is advising anyone who receives a suspicious call claiming to be from its staff to end the conversation immediately and never disclose any part of their PPS number, bank account details, bank card information or credit card details.
