Speaking about the track, the band’s vocalist and lyricist Ross Macintosh says, “I think this is one of the only tracks on our upcoming album that has three verses. We usually try to keep songs short, sweet and going in different directions but I really like the narrative that we managed to put together here.
“It tells the story of a sort of ‘long-lost first love’ and we hope it resonates, or at the very least that people find themselves humming along to the chorus afterwards.
“It’s a weird one because the chorus lyrics came whilst I was writing the melody, but I have no idea who Grace is… There’s a lot of playfulness in the instruments and magic moments that can only come from being in the studio.”
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
Ross (singer and guitarist): When I’m not making music I’m spending most of my time teaching biology in secondary school.
I’ve played guitar and been in a few bands since I was 14 but I didn’t write my first song until I was 32 during COVID.
I’ve got an obsession with the Fender Jazzmaster. I had to delete the Reverb shop app from my phone because I would find myself aimlessly swiping through new Jazzmasters that I can’t afford. They are magical.
How would you describe your music?
Ross: Somewhere in the big muddy field of indie/indie rock/alt rock. Our closest comparisons are bands like Hundredth, Jimmy Eat World and Turnover. It’s definitely a 2000s sound with big, driven guitars, clean and catchy vocals and an uplifting sound.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Ross: Death Cab For Cutie, The Shins, Smashing Pumpkins, MJ Lenderman and Band of Horses.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Andy (bassist): Sugarcult at The Garage in Glasgow
What was the first record you ever bought?
Andy: Rendezvous by Basement Jazz.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Steven (drummer): Sleep by My Chemical Romance (still riding the high from seeing them play in Glasgow recently).

Favourite lyric of all time?
Ross: “I was looking for a job and then I found a job/and heaven knows I’m miserable now” – The Smiths.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Steven: Daft Punk – Around The World.
