Gardaí responded to two serious incidents in Cork city yesterday – including a confrontation outside a hospital after a man was attacked on the Northside.
Emergency services rushed to the scene following an assault in the Ballyvolane area yesterday (Friday 31st July) at approximately 4pm. During the incident, Cork Beo understands that a man in his 20s suffered a deep wound caused by a large, bladed weapon.
The victim was taken to Mercy University Hospital alongside at least one other person who had suffered injuries. It’s understood that after they had reached the hospital, there was another confrontation between two rival groups who both arrived outside the building at the same time.
It was a very difficult and potentially dangerous task for the first responders, Gardaí and ambulance service crews, who were attempting to help a young man with potentially life-threatening injuries.
The groups were dispersed, and it’s understood that the victim, 20s, is still being treated for very serious injuries.
Gardaí believe these incidents are linked to a long-running feud between families in Cork city.
