Fiona Everard and Lauren Roy have been added to the Irish team for next week’s European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, but Rachel McCann now misses out.
Bandon AC athlete Everard will compete in the women’s 10,000m final on 14 August alongside fellow Irish athlete Niamh Allen.
Roy, of Fast Twitch AC, will take part in the women’s 100m event while the Ballymena sprinter will also compete in the women’s 200m and 4x100m relay events.
There was bad news for McCann though as injury has forced her out of the women’s 400m and 4x400m relay events.
The championships take place at the Alexandra Stadium from 10-16 August and will see several international medallists including Kate O’Connor, Mark English and Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC) don the green vest.
Sharlene Mawdsley is selected in the women’s 400m and 4x400m relay events, but her participation is still uncertain after pulling up injured in the women’s 200m national final at Santry.
