American TV host Martha Stewart has revealed she invited Snoop Dogg on to her show because she “was attracted to rappers”, adding she “could never get Eminem to come on”.
The pair share an unlikely but famous friendship dating back to 2008, when the TV personality invited the musician on to The Martha Stewart Show to cook mashed potatoes and bake brownies.
Their relationship has lasted almost two decades, and they have since teamed up for many programmes such as their own cookery show and to judge a Halloween food competition.
In an interview with People magazine, Stewart explained why she decided to invite the chart-topper on to her lifestyle and cooking show.
The homemaking expert, 85, said: “I invited Snoop to be on my show [in 2008] because he was a rapper, and I was attracted to rappers.
“I like rap music. I especially like Eminem, and I could never get Eminem to come on any show.
“He would not accept any invitation. I still haven’t met him.”
Snoop Dogg, 54, formed a high-profile friendship with Stewart that evolved into regular professional collaborations, such as hosting Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party, where they invited celebrity guests to partake in culinary challenges.
The rapper and the cookbook author are also part-owners of Championship club Swansea City AFC.
“I don’t think Snoop likes me because I have street cred”
Stewart also reflected on being sentenced to five months in prison in 2004 after she was found guilty of lying about the nature of a stock sale three years prior.
She told the magazine: “You would never know what jail was like until you go to jail.
“It’s a horrible place. It’s not a restorative process.”
Asked about whether the reputation this resulted in helped to cement her friendship with Snoop Dogg, she said: “No, I don’t think Snoop likes me because I have street cred.”
Stewart gained a reputation as a domestic authority in the 1980s after publishing a series of lifestyle books.
She founded her highly successful Martha Stewart Living magazine in 1990, which led to the launch of her eponymous lifestyle TV show three years later – establishing her as a household name in the US.
Stewart has received multiple accolades, including 12 Daytime Emmy Awards.
She has written more than 100 books and opened multiple restaurants during her decades in the spotlight.
