County Clare golfer Áine Donegan is right in the mix heading into the weekend at the PIF London Championship.
Donegan, who had the clubhouse lead at the conclusion of her round earlier, shot 69 to finish on seven under par.
Overnight leader Anna Huang, from Canada, shot 68 and will take a one-stroke lead into Saturday after finishing on 11 under.
England’s Charley Hull shot a sensational 62 to move into outright second place on 10 under par. She hit nine birdies, after an eagle on the first, to see her move from the wrong side of par into tournament contention over the course of the day.
An early starter on Friday, Donegan hit a hot streak early on with five birdies in six holes – from the third to the eighth – to shoot up the leaderboard.
She played the rest of her round in one-over par, but her seven-under total for the tournament saw her take top spot alongside Australia’s Kelsey Bennett – the duo holding a two-shot lead over the field at that stage.
The event at the Centurion Club has a huge $2,000,000 purse, one of the highest on the Ladies European Tour.
Anna Foster sits at one-over par, but it could have been so much better.
Starting at the 10th hole, Foster eagled the 18th to move to into the top 10 temporarily, but she had three bogeys and a double bogey in the first five holes of her front nine leaving with her with a sweat to make the cut.
Sara Byrne will also find herself around for the weekend after a fine second-round 71 saw her move also to that one-over par mark.
