A ‘do not swim’ notice has been issued for Malahide Beach in north Dublin following an overflow from a nearby waste water treatment plant.
Fingal County Council issued the notice in consultation with the HSE, warning that swimming at the beach could cause illness.
It was issued yesterday and will remain in place for at least three days.
Resampling of the water is now being arranged, with results likely to be received later this week.
It said that while the beach remains open to the public, beach users have been asked to respect the notice as it has been put in place to ensure their health is not compromised.
Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website or checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.
