Stranger Things closed out its fifth and final season with the finale dropping Dec. 31, 2025, and it only accelerated its audience: the show has racked up more than 23.26 billion minutes watched between January and June, including a Nielsen-record single week of 8.65 billion minutes covering the final days of 2025 into the first days of 2026. That tally makes it the most-watched original series in U.S. streaming history, ahead of Bluey and The Pitt.
Ten years, five seasons, 42 episodes and one town called Hawkins that just won’t let go of the global audience. Between January and June 2026, Netflix’s flagship series racked up more than 23.26 billion minutes watched in the U.S., a figure that dwarfs the competition and cements its place at the very top of the streaming charts. Bluey and The Pitt, both critical and popular hits in their own right, couldn’t touch the numbers generated by Eleven and her friends in what turned out to be their farewell run. The finale closed the book on the Duffer brothers’ saga, but the viewing figures suggest audiences are nowhere near ready to say goodbye.
Stranger Things tops the 2026 streaming charts
Since its debut in 2016, Stranger Things has grown from a summer sleeper hit into one of Netflix’s defining properties. The fifth and final season wrapped up with the series finale dropping Dec. 31, 2025, closing out a decade of adventures in Hawkins, Indiana. Fresh viewing data now confirms just how big that farewell turned out to be.
A ten-year run built by the Duffer brothers
Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the series blended 1980s nostalgia, small-town horror, and coming-of-age drama into something audiences kept returning to, season after season. Its ensemble cast became household names along the way, none more so than Millie Bobby Brown, whose portrayal of Eleven anchored the show from its very first episode.
Across 5 seasons and 42 episodes, the story followed a group of kids, then teenagers, facing threats from the Upside Down while their town, and their friendships, changed around them. That long arc paid off when the finale arrived at the turn of the year.
23 billion minutes in six months
According to Nielsen’s Streaming Content Ratings, which track U.S. minutes watched and underpin its Top 10 streaming charts, covering the first half of 2026, Americans streamed 23.26 billion minutes of Stranger Things between January and June, making it the most-watched series in the U.S. across all platforms during that window. The show also set Nielsen’s all-time weekly record, logging 8.65 billion minutes in the week of Dec. 29, 2025–Jan. 4, 2026, a figure never before recorded in audience measurement.
The competition was close behind. Bluey on Disney+ took second place with 22.81 billion minutes, while the Emmy-nominated medical drama The Pitt on HBO Max rounded out the podium with 21.12 billion. For Netflix, the result reinforces its lead at a moment when rival platforms keep gaining ground.
The most-watched original in streaming history
Beyond the semester numbers, Stranger Things now carries a heavier crown: it has become the most-watched original production in the history of U.S. streaming measurement. Reviews of the final season were mixed, yet the audience showed up in numbers no other show has matched. Few series manage to end their run at the very peak of their popularity.
Hawkins’ future beyond the finale
The main story is finished, but the franchise is not. Several spin-off projects tied to the Stranger Things universe are reportedly in development at Netflix, with the Duffer brothers involved in shaping what comes next. The first of them is expected to reach the platform in the coming years.
