Two men charged with raping a woman in the car park of Ceannt Railway Station in Galway last week have been further remanded in custody.
The men, aged 27 and 25, appeared via video link at Galway District Court and proceedings were explained with the help of an interpreter.
The men were previously refused bail at a special sitting of the district court.
Each man is charged with the rape of a woman on 1 August at Ceannt Railway Station car park, contrary to section 48 of the Offences Against The Person Act and section 2 (1) of the Criminal Law Rape Amendment Act, as amended by section 21 of the Criminal Law Rape Amendment Act.
The men are also charged with falsely imprisoning the same alleged victim on the same date and at the same location, an offence contrary to section 15 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act.
Sergeant Christy Browne told the court the State is seeking a two week remand to obtain directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions on how the case is to proceed.
Defence counsel, Liam Carroll BL, told both men the case was being adjourned to 25 August and that his instructing solicitor is making attempts to have a consultation with them in prison.
Mr Carroll said it is hoped this consultation can take place next week.
One of the accused said he has been unable to make contact with his family and Judge Gerard Furlong said that was a matter for the prison governor and not something in the court’s control.
Judge Furlong remanded both men in custody to appear again on 25 August.
