A man in his 40s has died from injuries sustained during an assault in Dublin city centre earlier this week.
The serious assault occurred on North Great Charles Street, Dublin 1 on Monday.
Gardaí said the man died at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital today.
The office of the Coroner, and the State Pathologist have been notified.
Gardaí said a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Mountjoy Garda Station.
A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to the family of the man who died.
A woman had previously appeared in court earlier this week in relation to the assault investigation.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
Any road users or pedestrians who were in the North Great Charles Street, Dublin 1 area between 10pm and 10.30pm on Monday who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
Gardaí are appealing to delivery or taxi drivers operating in the area at the time, who may have noticed any suspicious activity.
