ITV Racing is back on Saturday with action from Newbury, Newmarket and Ripon, starting here with the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes over an extended 1m5f. Dubai Honour is the best of these on paper but he’s up in trip and doesn’t usually run on ground this fast. He’s also getting on at nine years old. MOUNT ATLAS has been battling away a number of times against Tabletalk and they meet again although the latter is 3lb better off than when defeated last time. Mount Atlas was a willing partner, though, and might just enjoy having his head in front a bit more than his old rival. PJ McDonald rides for Andrew Balding.

A handicap over 5f. KINSWOMAN is dropped in class after being outgunned in Group 3 company at York last time. The filly has dropped to a tasty looking mark of 88 after that defeat, and there’s no doubt in my mind she’s a well handicapped horse. The drop from 6f to 5f should suit her and she must have a decent chance for William Haggas and Tom Marquand.

The Grey Horse Handicap over 6f. A huge chance for HAVANA BLUE to get a deserved win after a string of placed efforts at decent tracks including here, Ascot and Goodwood. The handicap mark has crept back up again, but the gelding remains on 80 which is the same mark he’s been on when placed the last two starts and he stays this trip well. Julie Camacho trains and Ryan Sexton rides.

A handicap over 7f. A big chance this for the ultra tough GREAT ACCLAIM to get back to winning ways. He’s been excellently trained bye Eve Johnson Houghton and has been running well all season with huge efforts at Haydock and Ascot (including the Royal meeting) and was a fair ninth back at the track when last seen. He drops 1lb to a rating of 101 which is not going to make much difference but I suspect his running style will be suited to the way this race takes place. Charlie Bishop is on top.

14:55 Ripon – Woodstock (each-way)

A handicap over 6f. A huge field which is fun. WOODSTOCK hasn’t run over 6f since September of last year, and most of his good form is over 7f. That said they should go quickly here and the Ruth Carr runner is in decent shape having finished fourth in a big field at Thirsk last time. He travelled strongly that day but didn’t last home so he’s got some pace. A few quid each-way with Oisin Orr on top.

Here’s the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes over 7f. The three-year-old EXTREMELY ZAIN takes on Group 1 class animals here and has no chance on his current rating of 103. However, he gets a bit of weight as a three-year-old and I’m in no doubt he’s better than his current rating. After blitzing a field up at York, the William Haggas runner finished fourth behind Amazing Journey in the International Handicap at Ascot and I suspect he will be dropped out a little more in this event as he was a little keen then and didn’t see out the trip as well as expected. 15:25 Ripon – Khafiz (each-way)

The big betting race of the day in the Great St Wilfrid Handicap over 6f. Less runners than the previous race which seems odd to me. The only time KHAFIZ has run over a trip this short was on debut and he got stuffed. However, he’s lightly raced and it might just be a stroke of genius going here in a biggish field. His fourth at Chester last time was a fair run, and while it did not suggest he massively wanted to go sprinting it did show he’s in good shape. I’ll chance him to run on into a place at least for Roger Fell and Harry Davies. Another each-way play.

15:42 Newbury – Mosheer

A novice for juveniles over 7f. A lot of guesswork here but MOSHEER looks useful on paper and cots 185,000gns so probably looks all right! A son of New Bay out of an Iffraaj mare, the bay colt is related to Group performers and this trip should be ideal on debut. Owen Burrows trains and Callum Rodriguez takes the ride.
