Nexans has completed qualification of its 525 kV HVDC cable system for
installation at water depths of up to 3,000 metres.



The qualification covered the full system, including the cable, factory
joints and repair joints.


The work was carried out as part of the Great Sea Interconnector project.
The qualification process included electrical and mechanical testing, with
the system tested to loads representative of installation conditions at
depths of up to 3,000 metres.


The qualification, together with the earlier sea trial, demonstrates the
potential deployment of HVDC transmission technology at water depths beyond
the industry’s previously established limits.
