Met Éireann issues nationwide Status Yellow rain alert

A nationwide Status Yellow rain and thunderstorm warning has been issued by Met Éireann.

The alert came into effect at midday and will remain in place until 9pm.

The forecaster has warned of widespread heavy showers with thunderstorms bringing some lightning and hail.

Met Éireann said that possible impacts include localised flooding, lightning damage, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.

It also said that outdoor events may be impacted by poor weather.
