After walking down the aisle in June, Kyla Cobbler is ready to reach for the next big life milestone: motherhood.

The Cork comedian has been having a phenomenal year on both the personal and professional front, with an impressive touring schedule on the books, including her near sell-out gig at the 3Arena.

There have also been TV appearances and the impending release of her memoir, and somewhere in the middle of all that, she found time to walk down the aisle with her South African partner Simon Stewart.

Now Kyla is hoping to leap into motherhood, and she and Simon are currently trying to get pregnant, something she has been quite open about online.

‘I was talking about the ovulating and the sticks ad trying or whatever, and I said: “Look, I don’t want this [experience] to be the whole thing”, because I’ve been around people who tried the first time and got pregnant, and I’ve been around people who are still trying, and I’ve seen incredible, intelligent, creative, ferocious women be broken by it, which I think is also valid.

‘I said, I’m going into this to try and be a mother, and I would love to be a mother, but if for some reason it doesn’t come, know that what we as women bring to the table is so much more than childbearing,’ she told the Irish Independent.

Kyla went on to talk of how the maternal instinct doesn’t just automatically happen at the moment of conception and that the pressure around it is ‘so heavy’.

That pressure comes from a society, she adds, that can make women forget their value and the potential they have to achieve.

Her aim in speaking out in her videos is to create a safe space for women to be themselves and be emotional if they want to.

‘If it takes me being a bit more open and a bit more vulnerable to get it going, I’m happy to do that. Very, very happy to do that, in fact,’ she said.
