Ryan: In the UK, they reserve a very particular kind of loathing for poor Meghan Markle, Suits star and wife to Prince Harry.
The whole monarchy thing is really quite bizarre to most Irish observers, but it’s their thing, and it’s been there forever, so let them
off, and in fairness, I can see some of the value, like when King Charles went to Washington and had Trump eating out of his hand
while throwing some regal shade in the President’s direction.
It seems that most British people are OK with the Windsors (bar Andrew, who is now persona non grata in extremis).

And then along comes Meghan. Well, Jesus wept, she might as well have taken a flamethrower to Buckingham Palace before
dragging ‘their’ prince to California and a life of Windsor-less wokery.
I met her once for 30 seconds. It was outside the White House at a Patrick’s Day event. She was warm, funny and very pleasant.
On that brief basis, I find myself telling British listeners to my show on Sundays that she’s OK even if you find her annoying, but
still, they complain.

The anger feels intense and – with the recent suicide of Jason Arday, the professor accused of plagiarism – I would urge them
to tread carefully.
Sometimes the media and some keyboarders go in a bit too hard on a headline and not a human. That last bit gets lost in the lust for something I don’t quite understand.
Anyway, she’s back in.
