STORYTELLING: BY THE LIGHT OF THE SILVERY MOON

Storyteller, musician and modern-day seanchaí Aindrias de Staic brings Ireland’s oral tradition vividly to life in his new show, blending folklore, theatre and live music, and drawing on the legacy of great Irish bards. Joined by Brian Fleming on bodhrán and Aisling Lyons on harp and concertina, de Staic explores forgotten villages, travelling musicians, mischievous spirits and encounters with the otherworld, creating a richly atmospheric show that is rooted in tradition while embracing the energy of today’s folk revival. The tour starts at Cork Arts Theatre (3 + 4 September), then continues to Pavilion Theatre, Dublin (6 Sept), Kilconly Community Centre, Galway (19 Sept), Glencorrib Kilroe Community Centre, Co. Mayo (25 Sept), The Courthouse Arts Centre, Wicklow (16 Oct), Killarney (26 Oct), Siamsa Tíre, Tralee (27 Oct), VISUAL Carlow (30 Oct), Axis Ballymun, Dublin (19 November), plus further dates to be announced.

EVENT: THE SEÁN CORCORAN SERIES

Drogheda becomes a hub of music, song, dance, literature, art and heritage as the Seán Corcoran Series returns for its fourth edition from 4th–6th September. The three-day programme brings artists and audiences together across churches, galleries, pubs, streets and public spaces. Highlights include LAOCH, celebrating the heroes of Irish music while marking the 50th anniversary of Féile na Bóinne, the landmark Drogheda folk festival first held in 1976. alongside a street-wide programme featuring dance, heritage and community events. EVENT: DUBLIN FRINGE FESTIVAL

Dublin Fringe returns from 5th–20th September, transforming the capital into a stage for contemporary theatre, dance, live art, music, immersive work and late-night culture a go-go. This year’s festival invites audiences to “make the city yours”: highlights include the new Project Fringe: After Dark collaboration with Project Arts Centre, presenting a series of DJ nights, post-show parties and late-night gatherings; wlsewhere you’ll find new shows from the likes of Chaos Factory, Theatre Lovett, and Performance Corporation, the return of much-loved wrestling and music extravaganza Battle Of The Quays, while comic David O’Doherty makes his Abbey Theatre debut and in Arborlogues: A Botanical Recital Performed for One Tree, you are the performer, and a single tree is your audience. BOOK: THE NEWER WORLD

EVENT: BIG TYPE FESTIVAL

The National Print Museum marks its 30th anniversary with a three-day celebration of print, typography, design and creativity. Running from 4–6 September, the festival brings artists, designers, writers and printmakers together for talks, workshops, demonstrations, music and family-friendly events. Among the highlights are sessions with Maser, Anthony Burrill and Annie Atkins, and conversations with Booker Prize shortlistee Djamel White and Laureate na nóg Chris Haughton, alongside an evening Print Party and a free Community Day – find out more here.
