Aaron Hill’s conqueror Jak Jones defeated Judd Trump 6-3 to reach the final of the British Open in Cheltenham tonight.
Trump – seeking a first title for seven months – had looked in fine form this week and comfortably beat world number one Zhao Xintong 5-1 in the last eight.
However, Welshman Jones soon opened up a 3-1 lead after breaks of 95 and 68 before Trump dug in to take the next two frames and pull level.
Jones, runner-up in the 2024 World Championship, edged back in front after a break of 59 and another half-century helped him take the eighth frame before he wrapped up a notable win to book a clash with Mark Selby.
In Saturday’s afternoon session at The Centaur, Selby came through a five-hour battle against Liam Highfield to eventually close out a 6-3 win and secure his spot in what will be a 40th ranking event final – where victory could lift him up to world number two.
