A group of homeware enthusiasts have shared their genius cost-cutting method to dry clothes fast indoors this winter without turning on the heating or using a tumble dryer

As colder and wetter weather begins to set in, drying clothes on an outdoor line is becoming an increasingly tricky task.
For households without a tumble dryer, getting laundry dried quickly during the winter months is a familiar annual struggle.
However, a community of homeware enthusiasts on social media have shared their clever money-saving trick for drying clothes rapidly indoors, without switching on the heating or resorting to a tumble dryer.
Posting in a Facebook group called ‘Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It’, named after popular British cleaning influencer Mrs Hinch, one member wrote: “I use a clothes airer with a dehumidifier, it dries faster than my tumble dryer”.
A second user chimed in: “I swear by my dehumidifier. Hang the clothes in the utility room, shut the door and a load is dry in four hours.”
While a third contributed: “Wouldn’t be without [my dehumidifier]. Scary how much water it takes. No damp problems anymore and our clothes are dry overnight”.
Another handy tip for speeding up the drying process is to run the washing machine on a high or double spin cycle, or add an extra spin at the end. This helps draw out excess moisture from the fabric, which would otherwise significantly slow down drying time.
For those fortunate enough to own a tumble dryer, popping a dry towel in alongside your wet laundry can help the machine work far more efficiently. One user offered the following tip: “If you want to make your tumble dryer work quicker and use less electricity then put a towel in with a wet load, leave it in for 15-20 minutes and then remove it.”
