Ardara man Austen Allen breezed to his latest win on Channel 4’s Countdown today.
The hospital worker notched up his fifth straight win on the popular show, beating opponent Farrukh 110-60.
It is the Donegal man’s highest scorer to date and he has broken the century on each appearances, scoring 108, 108, 107 and 104.
Austen opened up by spotting MURIATES for eight points.
Austen also scored eight with APOSTLES, NEGATORS, DENOTING and UNDERHIT.
The Donegal brainbox also scored with DICIER and ATONES for six as well as the seven-letter FLOWERS, PLAGUES and MONOCLE.
Chartered accountant Farrukh, a chartered accountant, found Austen a tough nut to crack on the numbers, too.
Austen and Farrukh were one off the 152 target on then first numbers game before being likewise on the next. Austen was a little too late calling 436 when the target was 437 with Farrukh scoring seven points having got to 438.

Austen was on track for his highest score yet heading to the famous Countdown conundrum.
Farrukh recalled how he was a cricketer and once scored two boundaries off the bowl of the legendary Ian Bishop. But he was stumped by Austen who managed to buzz in to unscramble the letters minilover to spell out VERMILION.
“A marathon not a sprint,” said Austen – who continues his quest to become an octochamp.
