The Donegal public is being encouraged to check if they qualify for the Government’s household benefits package.
The package provides valuable assistance with energy costs and includes a free television licence.
The household benefits package provides financial support of up to €420 per year per household towards electricity or gas bills and is currently assisting more than 550,000 households throughout the country.
Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher said “With the cost of living continuing to place pressure on household finances, particularly during the winter months, I am urging people across Donegal to take a few minutes to check whether they qualify for the household benefits package. This support can make a real difference by helping with energy costs and providing a fully funded Television Licence.”
He continued “Many people may not be aware that once you reach 70 years of age, the household benefits package is not means tested and you do not need to be receiving a State Pension or another qualifying social welfare payment to apply. I would encourage older people, family members, neighbours and community groups to spread the word about this important support.”
Pat the Cope Gallagher noted that people aged between 66 and 70 may also qualify if they are receiving certain social welfare payments or satisfy a means test, while additional qualifying criteria apply to those under 66 years of age.
“It is important that everyone who may be entitled to this assistance receives it. I would encourage anyone who is unsure about their eligibility to contact the Department of Social Protection and seek advice. No one should miss out on supports that are available to help meet rising household costs.”
Applications for the household benefits package can be made online through MyWelfare.ie using a verified MyGovID account or by completing an application form and submitting it by post.
