Darragh McElhinney set a new national record for the 5km as he finished 16th at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen.
McElhinney came home in 13:22, four seconds faster than the previous record set by Alistair Cragg in 2012.
Running in the same race, Brian Fay was 38th in a time of 13:48, while Eritrea’s Dawit Seare was the winner in a time 12:56.
Back on the track for the first time since a real career highlight when he took the bronze at the European Championships last month in Birmingham, Andrew Coscoran’s return to action saw him finish 40th in the men’s mile.
He came home in personal best time of 4:07.95, with Cathal Doyle the best of the Irish, 17th, in a time of 3:58.40.
Germany’s Robert Farken won the race in a world-leading time of 3:51.80.
In the women’s mile, Sarah Healy was 13th in a personal best time of 4:32.98, with Laura Nicholson just behind her in 21st, also recording a PB of 4:36.64.
There was another world leading time recorded by France’s Agathe Guillemot as she won the race in 4:22.74.
