BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – Police officers had to borrow a boat to pluck a man suffering a mental health crisis from the Manatee River last week, the Bradenton Police Department said.
It happened Sept. 12, just before 9 p.m., police said on social media.
The officers were able to get to the man quickly because a boat owner agreed to bring officers aboard for the rescue.
After several minutes, the 33-year-old man was convinced to get onto the boat where he was taken to shore and then taken to the hospital.
He was in the water for at least an hour, police said.
